A new date and a new location for the RSAC Scottish Rally this year. Running a month earlier and now based in Lockerbie the rally will take in a couple of stages on Friday evening before a full day of stages on Saturday. Starting on the High Street, Dumfries at 19.00, the rally will finish in Moffat on Saturday at 17.00.
Also a round of the Scottish Rally Championship the BRC crews will tackle 10 stages, totalling 75 miles.
What happened in 2016
Fired-up after missing the Pirelli Carlisle win, Elfyn Evans showed why he is worthy of a WRC factory seat by leading from start-to-finish on the Scottish Rally. It was to be a drama-fuelled affair behind the DMACK ace, however, with four drivers vying for the remaining rostrum positions. Fredrik Ahlin was amongst them until a driveshaft let go on stage three, sidelining the Swedish sensation.
Tom Cave had been chalking up several solid results and – now feeling comfortable in his Fiesta – started to show he was the best-of-the-rest behind the on-form Evans. The Spencer Sport star ended the one-day fast and furious sprint in a comfortable second. David Bogie had held the spot and was due to take his best finish of the season until he stopped on the road section heading to the finish with a damaged radiator. With Scottish hopes extinguished, Desi Henry/Liam Moynihan took their first podium of the year. Rounding out the top five were Jonathan Greer/Kirsty Riddick in their Citroen DS3 R5 and Josh Moffett/John Rowan in their Ford Fiesta R5.
Local hero and 2011 British Rally Champion Bogie is a massive fan of the Scottish Rally:
”Castle O’er, Twiglees and the like are such iconic stages. They are real drivers’ stages with their hard compact surface. It’s not necessarily a technical rally – the roads just flow really nicely and you get into a good rhythm and carry the speed.”
