“I especially like Myherin,” says Jari-Matti Latvala

The opening stage of the 2016 MSA British Rally Championship got a great endorsement from Volkswagen Motorsport driver Jari-Matti Latvala at the pre-event press conference for Wales Rally GB earlier this month.

Asked “Why Myherin?” “It’s more open and wider, it’s the way the stage picks up the lines and you can set up the car before the corner. It feels like Finland. The surface is changing in there, it can be slippery even though the grip looks good, but I like the room that allows you to play in the long, long corners. You can make a difference here.”

Unfortunately J-ML never got to make a difference on his favourite stage after getting caught out on the second corner of the second stage and spending his day being looked after by the marshals at the start of Sweet Lamb.

5th March sees the Mid-Wales Stages starting the BRC campaign making use of the classic tests of Hafren, Sweet Lamb and Myherin. What better way to start your year than by tackling Pikes Peak up by the wind farms?
